Thank you for your interest in Play Keyboards for Your Own Enjoyment™. Like hundreds of students I've had over the years, you probably find yourself in the position of having purchased a piano, organ, or keyboard with every intention of learning how to play but found that traditional keyboard education was a tedious, time-consuming, and slow moving process. Maybe the instrument was purchased for someone else in the family who started to learn but stopped, or perhaps you inherited the instrument. No matter how it happened, now you've decided that it is time to learn to do something you've always wanted to do... play music for your own enjoyment!
I have some welcome news for you. I have created Play Keyboards for Your Own Enjoyment™ to be a musically sound keyboard education system that will allow you to accomplish in 12 to 18 months what normally takes 4 to 6 years of traditional keyboard education. Keep in mind, Play Keyboards for Your Own Enjoyment™ is designed to do just what it says; teach you to Play Keyboards for Your Own Enjoyment™. Whether that enjoyment is simply by yourself in the privacy of your own home, playing Happy Birthday for a friend or relative, or for the warmth of family and friends gathered around you and your instrument as you play holiday favorites, you will have the satisfaction of being able to sit down and confidently create beautiful music.
I'm sure you have many questions about Play Keyboards for Your Own Enjoyment™, so I will try and answer a few of the more general questions that I most frequently get about my system of keyboard education.
I teach out of my home in northwest Las Vegas. I have a piano, organ, and sampling synthesizer - and if you're interested in something different, I also have a Theremin!
No Class Lessons - Every student is taught one on one by me.
You will learn to play without the need of boring finger exercises, obscure dusty facts, and mind-numbing, archaic songs. As an adult, right now you have all of the physical dexterity and mental acuity that you need to play piano quite nicely and we will put those tools to work start you playing immediately. Being an adult you know how to learn but one of your biggest challenges will be putting yourself back into a learning mode since as an adult you spend far more time performing what you have learned than in a learning process. This system is not designed to get you to Carnegie Hall or turn you into the next American Idol. I have been developing and refining my system over the past 40 years for the express purpose of allowing you to quickly, efficiently, and enjoyably learn to play your keyboard - not become a classical or professional musician.
Don't let an unfamiliarity with music notation frighten you. I will show you how you can learn to quickly read as much as you need but we will always be building a solid musical foundation that will support your efforts if at a later time you should decide to pursue keyboard or other musical performance to higher levels.
I will teach you in such a way that you can always play at the apex of whatever your current ability is at the moment without being held back by musical arrangements that are too simple or being frustrated with arrangements that are boring or too complicated. In all of my years of teaching people to play keyboards I have never had a student who was willing to follow my instructions and put in the effort who did not more than exceed their own expectations. I cannot make you learn to play. You will learn to play because of your efforts and it is my job to give you the correct information, at the proper time, and keep you pointed in the right direction based on where it is that you desire to go.
